Lyrics: Pali Detwalia

Udham Singh was an Indian revolutionary who assassinated Michael O'Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of the Punjab in India, on 13 March 1940 in Caxton Hall, London, England. O'Dwyer had surrounded a peaceful protest at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab, India and had massacred hundreds of people, including women and children.

Sun Advair Diyan Gallan Soorme Nu Kende Gussa Aa Geya
The warrior got angry after listening to the words of General O'Dwyer

Sher Wangu Gajeya Babbar Sher Si Bai Goreyan Te Shaa Geya

The lion roared like a wild lion and he made a move on the white men

Sun Lalkara Othe Udham Sion Da Machi Hahakar Si

The whole hall had shaken after hearing Udham Singh's enraging statement

Sher Moohre Pajh Nikli Si Dar Kende Giddhran Di Daarh Si

They say that the flock of sheep had ran out in fear of the lion

Dakeya Na Dak Hove Goreyan Di Saari Fojh Murhe La Layi
He had the whole white army bewildered, they couldn't control him even with many tries

Bucchran Di Toli Jehri Kendi Si Kahaundi Sidhe Raahe Pa Layi
The group of butchers that was well renowned was taught a lesson

Marhiyan De Wangu Os Hall Vich Seegi Kende Chup Shaa Gayi
Peace had taken over in that hall like the hall was a cemetry

Vaaro Vaari Soch De Ne Maran Di Sadi Hun Vaari Aa Gayi
They think to themselves, one by one, that it's our turn to die now

Der Na Lagayi Soorme Ne Kende Kithe Othe Tin Fire Si
He didn't take long, they say that the warrior had shot 3 fires there

Goli Lagi Gehra Khaa Ke Chat Dig Geya Bai Othe Advair Si

Took a bullet and a swirl before falling to the ground was O'Dwyer

Deuga Gawahian Itihaas Jag Te Desh Layi Jo Kargeya
History will always be a witness for anyone that has done something for their country

Apni Jawani Kurbaan Karke Te Naa Ucha Kargeya
He sacrificed his youth years and took his name to great heights

Rehndi Duniya De Tak Sher Diyan Loki Waaran Gaunde Rehnge
People will sing songs in the remembrance of this lion

Shaheedian Diyan Yaadan Vich Ral Mil Kathe Mele Launde Rehnge
They will get together and organize festivals in the remembrance of martyrs

Jallianwale Bagh Da Oh Leke Badla Si Farz Nibha Geya
He avenged the massacre of Jallianwala Bagh and fulfilled his duty

Akhe Detwalia Oh Desh Kaum Layi Oh Jind Lekhe La Geya

Detwalia says that he has given his life away for his community

Lyrics: Gurbaksh Singh Albela

This song tells the story of Sucha Singh Jawanda, known as Sucha Soorma in folk songs. Sucha restored the family honor by killing his sister-in-law Balbiro and her alleged extramarital lover Ghukkar, who at one time was his own best friend. Sucha temporarily left his village for a year. One day, on his way back to his village to see his brother Narain, he came across an old Hindu woman crying outside her house. Upon inquiring, he came to know that some Muslims in the village were ill-treating the Hindus. They stole, slaughtered and feasted on their cattle and were forcing the Hindus to eat it, too. Sucha went to the scoundrels and tried to stop them as they were about to kill another cow, but they went ahead with the killing anyway. Sucha got mad and shot five of them down; one of them was Ahmed Pathan. Later, Sucha joined a group of dacoits and ran havoc in the area. Soon, a similar situation arose. Raj Kaur, a widow and mother of two sons from a village in Bathinda, had a love affair with Gujjan. Her sons tried to stop her but she would not listen. On the contrary, she got her elder son Basant beaten up by her lover Gujjan. Basant made contact with Sucha about the problem his mother had put his family in. Sucha responded quickly and killed both Raj Kaur and Gujjan. Police tracked Sucha down in the village Kotshamir (now in modern day Pakistan) and hanged him in the village Gehri in 1911.

Geyaran Khoon Kite Sucha Faahe Lag Geya

Sucha committed 11 murders and got hanged

Bann Ke Tareek Saare Dhol Vaj Geya
The date was set and the drum was beat
*(Metaphorically, "Dhol Vaj Geya" means there is chaos all over.)

Fansi Den Lage Sucha Hai Pukaar Da
Sucha is about to be hanged when he cries for attention

Aakhri Suneha Loko Jandi Vaar Da
Last message to everyone before I leave

Aaje Koi Daran Moohre Choli Ad Ke, Morhiye Na Khairi Nu
Never turn away a beggar from your doorsteps

Akhan Moohre Deenda Rehnda Hai Rarkda Chhadiye Na Vairi Nu

Never let go of an enemy that is stuck in front of your eyes

Pehlan Khoon Kita Ghukkar Hankaari Da
First he murdered Ghukkar the egoistic

Dooja Bagh Teeja Bhabho Beero Naari
Second he murdered Bagh Singh (the guy who introduced Ghukkar to Balbiro) and third his sister-in-law Balbiro

Guan Chhadvayian Bucchran Nu Maar Ke

He released the cattle by killing the butchers

Panje Pappi Rakhte Vichalion Paar Ke
He killed off all five of the sinners

Ahmed Pathan Sir Ton Malesya Vadde Naag Zehri Nu
He got Ahmed Pathan, the poisonous snake, in the head

Akhan Moohre Deenda Rehnda Hai Rarkda Chhadiye Na Vairi Nu

Never let go of an enemy that is stuck in front of your eyes

Raj Kaur Nu Si Duniya Ton Toreya
He made Raj Kaur leave this world

Pher Vadde Velly Gujjan Nu Rodeya
Then he killed Gujjan who was always idle

Takkreya Nahi Maha Sion Nu Bahut Bhaleya

Tried hard to find Maha Singh but couldn't

Vaddi Seegi Ohdi Raab Ne Bacha Leya
He had more time to live so God saved him

Chaare Paase Honi Menu Ghera Kaddh Ke Chak Leje Gehri Nu
Fate surrounds me all four corners to take me away

Akhan Moohre Deenda Rehnda Hai Rarkda Chhadiye Na Vairi Nu
Never let go of an enemy that is stuck in front of your eyes

Aap Kolon Chhote Te Zulm Dhaiye Na
Never show injustice and creulty to those younger than you

Kadde Vi Kise Di Anakh Takaiye Na
Never hurt someone's self-respect

Bhaven Koi Kinneya Nu Deve Maar Ji
No matter how many one kills

Government Faahe Loundi Iko Vaar Ji
The government will hang him only once

Ajj Nahi Tan Kal Turna Har Ek Ne Raab Di Kachehri Nu
If not today then tomorrow everyone will leave for the Lord's court

Akhan Moohre Deenda Rehnda Hai Rarkda Chhadiye Na Vairi Nu
Never let go of an enemy that is stuck in front of your eyes

Hun Sees Sab De Jhukawan Charni
Now I bow my head before all

Jande Vaari Fateh Manzoor Karni
Accept my greetings as I leave

Waqt Akhiri Soorme Da Aya Hai
The last moments of the brave warrior have came

Zalmaan Ne Gal Vich Faaha Paya Hai
The despotics have put the around his neck

Chaleya Nibha Ke Jiven Likheya Khuda Ne Karma Di Diary Nu
He is leaving after completing what God wrote in his diary of deeds

Akhan Moohre Deenda Rehnda Hai Rarkda Chhadiye Na Vairi Nu
Never let go of an enemy that is stuck in front of your eyes

Khich Ditta Fatta Tani Gayee Tand Bai
The lever was pulled and his neck gets strangled

Nikal Gayi Jaan Jurh Gaye Ne Dand Bai
His life ends and his teeth close together

Maarda Narain Daahan Hai Oye Sucha
Narain let out a wail in grief

Bolda Nahi Veera Kehri Gallon Ruseya
My brother is not talking; what has made him mad?

Deon Wala Albela Laa Ke Kalma Likh Geya Shayari Nu
Albela from "Deon" (village in Bathinda, Punjab, India) used his pen and wrote out this poem

Akhan Moohre Deenda Rehnda Hai Rarkda Chhadiye Na Vairi Nu
Never let go of an enemy that is stuck in front of your eyes

Lyrics: Hardev Dilgir (Dev Tharikewala)

This song tells the story of Sarwan Kumar, a mythological character that appeared in Ramayana (an ancient Sanskrit epic), who is well-known today for his devotion to his parents. Sarwan's mother was initially unable to conceive; the couple prayed for years to Brahma (the Hindu god of Creation). Eventually, Brahma appears before them and blesses them with a devoted son, but he warns them not to see him or else they will lose their vision. A month after Sarwan's birth, the couple broke their promise and become blind. One day at the riverbank, Sarwan's mother finds that her son is missing. He is eventually brought back to them unharmed by King Dasrath, who was childless for years. The couple blessed Dasrath with not one but four sons. Sarwan grew up to become a healthy and strong man. One day, his parents told him that they want him to take them to the forty places of pilgrimage; Hindus believe that a pilgrimage to various shrines and holy places in old age purifies the soul. Transport was scarce and costly at that time, and Sarwan couldn't afford it. He decided to put each parent in a basket and tie one basket to each end of a bamboo pole he would shoulder while on their pilgrimage. According to the legend, while hunting in the forest of Ayodhya, King Dasrath heard a sound near a lake and unleashed an arrow, hoping to hit a deer. When he crossed the lake to collect his kill, he found that his arrow had struck a boy. The boy was Sarwan who was his nephew; Sarwan's mother was Dasrath's sister. Sarwan told Dasrath that he came to the lake to collect water for his sick and aged parents, who were both blind and who he had been carrying on a sling. He requested the king to take the pitcher of water to his parents. When the king took water to Sarwan's parents and told them of Sarwan's death, they were unable to bear the shock. They cursed Dasrath that he too would experience the loss of his own son. Legend has it that this curse took in effect when Dasrath's son Rama was sent to the forests for fourteen years.
